Our Story

At Maputo Dive Center, we’re more than just a dive shop. We’re part of a movement dedicated to empowering Mozambican divers and protecting our rich marine ecosystems. As the first Mozambican-owned and operated PADI 5-Star Dive Center, we proudly celebrate our local heritage while offering world-class dive experiences across Mozambique’s stunning underwater landscapes.

Our story began with Bitonga Divers, a pioneering initiative in Mozambique’s coastal town of Tofo. Bitonga Divers was created to empower local community members by providing them with the skills to work in the dive industry, traditionally dominated by foreigners. One of its most successful graduates was Luciano Adamo, who went from learning to swim to becoming a dive instructor and eventually, the head instructor for Bitonga Divers. Adamo’s passion for diving and his drive to inspire others became the foundation for something bigger.

In 2022, Adamo and his partner Julian Spezzati launched Maputo Dive Center. Drawing on his experience with Bitonga Divers, Adamo envisioned a dive center focused not only on providing exceptional dive experiences but also on building a community of skilled Mozambican divers. Today, we continue this mission through our Zero to Hero training programs, which turn locals with little to no underwater experience into certified dive professionals and marine conservationists.

At our core, we believe in community-driven growth, marine conservation, and creating opportunities for the next generation of Mozambican divers. Every dive with us supports this vision—whether you’re discovering the vibrant reefs of Mozambique or actively engaging with our ocean conservation efforts, you’re part of a story that’s transforming Mozambique’s underwater world.

Join us on this adventure, and be part of a movement that’s making waves!
